Last week, asphaleia training's ESOL classes celebrated the achievements of women and girls throughout the world. In the build-up to International Women’s Day on March 8th, ESOL students learned about some famous women of all ages throughout history, including African American equal rights campaigner Rosa Parkes, pioneer scientist Marie Curie, and Afghani education rights campaigner Malala Yousafzai.

In English discussions at entry level, students also discussed the fact that women or men could do any job – there was no such thing as a “man’s job” or a “woman’s job”. Students studied images showing female pilots, firefighters and mechanics and were encouraged to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the girls and women in their lives to mark this special day on March 8th.

asphaleia training centre is currently celebrating the fact that it has its largest contingent of female ESOL students in living memory!

If you know a young person who is aged 16-18 and needs support to learn English, asphaleia's On Track ESOL programme is suitable for low levels of English and gives students an opportunity to gain accredited qualifications as well as employability skills.
